Founded in 1854, the University Barge Club stands as a beacon of tradition and excellence in the rowing world. As the second oldest rowing club on Philadelphia’s iconic Boathouse Row, UBC has been at the forefront of promoting the art of rowing and fostering camaraderie among its members. Our club has nurtured generations of rowers, from competitive athletes to recreational enthusiasts, all united by a shared love for the sport and the river. With a commitment to maintaining our historic boathouse and a fleet of high-performance boats, we continue to honor our past while embracing the future. Founding of University Barge Club

The University Barge Club was established, marking the beginning of a long-standing tradition in rowing excellence.

Building Our New Boathouse

Our historic boathouse was built, becoming a cornerstone of Boathouse Row and a hub for rowing enthusiasts.
1971
Inaugural Head of the Schuylkill Regatta

UBC hosted the first Thomas Eakins Head of the Schuylkill Regatta, now one of the largest rowing events in the nation.
1987
National Historic Landmark Designation

Boathouse Row, including our boathouse, was designated a National Historic Landmark, recognizing its cultural significance.
